Wednesday 4.16.08

See yesterday.

Tuesday 4.15.08

Multiple choice practice today–you know you love it! So, more tomorrow…

Wednesday 4.2.08

In the midst of testing week and Heart of Darkness…chaos…test…

http://www.aduni.org/~heather/occs/honors/Poem.htm is a link to a hypertext version of “The Hollow Men.” I like our interpretation from class, and here is one that is based on Eliot’s allusions. Kinda interesting.

Friday 3.28.08

Today we focused on the ten most important quotes from section two of H of D as chosen by you in small groups. Finish the book by Monday. Test on Friday of next week.

Thursday, March 27 2008

Many were absent, so on Thursday we jumbled. Tuesday and Wednesday we discussed Heart of Darkness. Friday we’ll continue to discuss the ending of section II. Ciao.

Monday 3.24.08

Today you answered questions about H of D; we began discussing your answers. Read to page 18 or 24 depending on your text, reading to the passage that says, “I did not see the real significance of the wreck at once.”

Question 1: Describe our first narrator; what is his perception of the Thames, of England, of the Director of Companies, of Marlow?

Question 2: Describe Marlow. What is his perception of England?

Question 3: What symbolism did you notice? Suggestive imagery?

Question 4: Interesting or troubling lines so far?

Thursday 3.20.08

Read in Heart of Darkness to the paragraph that says, “You understand it was a Continental concern…”

Tuesday 3.18.08

Today we began HofD with an article from New Yorker magazine, “Mr. Kurtz, I Presume.” We’ll discuss it tomorrow, and you are also to read “Dover Beach” in the Perrine book (the one I assigned) and jot down answers to the questions that follow the poem.

Monday 3.17.08

Test on Hamlet today (finally!). Heart of Darkness next.

Yesterday you presented your Hamlet graphic organizers and then we discussed Hamlet as a tragic hero. Today we talked about the effect of bringing the ghost back at the end of the play and the idea of the revenge play. Your test over Hamlet is Monday.
